Metn – Minister of Information, Attorney Paul Morcos, cast his vote in the municipal and mayoral elections in the Metn District, after attending Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Deliverance Church.
Minister Morcos called for democratic participation in the elections, noting that “the state, under the directives of the President of the Republic, is keen to ensure that this entitlement is held as scheduled, smoothly and calmly.”
He said: “Let it be a democratic battle, and at the end of this day, let the loser congratulate the winner, whether municipal or mayoral, in a all peaceful, democratic and civilized manner. This is evidence that the government, under the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, whom you saw conducting field visits this morning, and the Prime Minister, in the plea he issued yesterday evening, is keen on this entitlement.”
While praising the organisation undertaken by the Ministry of Interior, Minister Morcos stressed the government’s insistence on respecting constitutional deadlines and entitlements.
Morcos added, “With the people’s efforts, everyone’s cooperation, and the vigilance of the state and all its agencies, especially the Ministry of Interior and Municipalities, headed by Minister Hajjar, today’s elections will be accomplished, constituting a cornerstone on the road to implementing decentralization.”
He concluded: “The importance of decentralization lies in development, as municipalities constitute the units within and through which regional development is implemented. Consequently, the burden will not remain on the central state.”
