Caretaker Information Minister, Ziad Makary, on Thursday inspected the progress of work regarding the archives of the Ministry’s Lebanese Studies and Publications Directorate, within the framework of the project carried out by the “French National Audiovisual Institute” and the French Embassy.
Minister Makary was accompanied by the Director of Studies Department Khodor Majed, and the Minister’s Advisors Boutros Franjieh and Elissar Naddaf.
Minister Makary listened to a detailed explanation by the official in charge of the workshop, Documentation Expert, Enas Doland, on the accomplished steps in terms of sorting the collections of books and publications. The Caretaker Minister hailed the “efforts made despite the difficult circumstances.”
Speaking in the wake of the tour, Makary said, “I am proud of the work done in organizing the archive of the Ministry’s Lebanese Studies and Publications Directorate, which falls within the framework of the agreement with the French embassy.”
Makary pointed out, “This archive is considered a new treasure. There are books that are 70 years old and there are new ones. They are all being organized, numbered and placed in boxes through the joint effort of the Ministry’s employees and French workers.”
Makary indicated that “part of the books will be moved to national libraries, universities and schools as a gift from the Ministry of Information,” stressing that “the subsequent steps will include Radio Lebanon, the National News Agency (NNA) and Tele Liban (TL), within the protocol program with the French Embassy.”
On the other hand, Minister Makary received at his ministerial office former Information Minister, Dr. Manal Abdel Samad, who hailed Minister Makary’s activity in following up on the existing projects launched during her tenure at the Ministry, in addition to new projects despite all the difficult circumstances that Lebanon is going through.
Dr. Abdel Samad also hoped that these projects would be completed.
Moreover, Minister Makary received President of the “Arabic Academy Award” Association, Rizkallah Helou, accompanied by the Association’s Secretary Nove Bcherrawi Helou, in presence of the Minister’s Advisor Naddaf.
Helou briefed Minister Makary on the initiatives launched by the Arabic Academy Award Association, and handed him a golden copy of the “Youth Panorama” Bulletin on the beatification of Fathers, Malaki and Saleh.
