Abdel Samad, UNDP Delegation Broach Strategic Plan Of Information Ministry

Minister of Information, Dr. Manal Abdel Samad Najd, on Monday discussed with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Resident Representative in Lebanon, Celine Moyroud, and Arkan El-Seblani, the Project Manager and Chief Technical Advisor of the UNDP’s “Anti-Corruption and Integrity in Arab Countries” (ACIAC), the importance of revamping the Ministry of Information and updating its role within a strategic plan, the most important of which is transforming it into a “Minister of State’s office for Communication Affairs”.

The meeting has also been an opportunity to discuss the establishment of the “Media Regulatory Authority” and the “National Media Institution” (Liban Media) to merge public media institutions in one platform, as well as the adoption of integrated digital media, proposition of the amended media law, and the possibility of cooperation in this field.

Minister Abdel Samad also proposed the possibility of establishing a “media incubator” and underscored the importance of the project in encouraging local media production by providing a basket of incentives to media professionals and media students.

Talks also touched on the “right to information” law and on the Ministry of Information’s substantial role in this field.
