Higher Defense Council recommends extension of general mobilization until June 7

President Michel Aoun stressed on Tuesday the importance of the cooperation between security apparatuses, municipalities and civil society in fighting Coronavirus.

Aoun’s comments were made during a meeting for the Higher Defense Council whereby Prime Minister Hassan Diab said that the available data suggest that the virus is still spreading “but will be contained according to plans set for isolating particular regions.”

For his part, Minister of Health Hamad Hassan said that the state of general mobilization must continue, adding that efforts are still required “to the maximum extent and on all levels” in order to spare the country a second wave.

This as Minister of Interior Mohamad Fahmi was assigned to take the necessary decisions regarding the measures that must be adopted during the holiday and that based on the available data.

The council then decided to extend the state of general mobilization until 7/6/2020 while keeping on all business activities that were allowed to reopen gradually according to the timelines set by article No. 2 of decree No. 6296/2020.

After the Cabinet session, Minister Hamad said that the most appropriate solution might be to isolate some areas, pointing out that “abiding by the precautions enables us to return to normal life with the least possible damage.”
