Ministers Of Communications And Information Launch “Let’s Communicate” Campaign To Encourage Dialogue Among Lebanese

On the occasion of the “International Conversations Day” observed on July 12, Caretaker Tele-Communication Minister, Johnny Corm, and Caretaker Minister of Information, Ziad Makary, on Monday launched the “Let’s Communicate” campaign, dedicated to encouraging dialogue and communication among the Lebanese, by offering 30 minutes of free calls on the fixed and prepaid cellular network on July 12th, and on the fixed network by increasing internet usage by 50 gigabytes and 1000 calling minutes for the month of July.

In a joint press conference held by both ministers at the Ministry of Communications, a short film about the “Let’s Communicate” campaign was shown.

In his delivered word, Caretaker Minister Qorm underlined the importance of dialogue,  highlighting the need to support and encourage dialogue, which is the only way for rapprochement and resolving differences.

Qorm said, “On the International Day of Conversations, which falls on July 12 all over the world, the Ministry of Communications, in cooperation with the Ministry of Information, decided to celebrate the occasion by providing 30 minutes of free local calls on the cellular network on July 12, and on the fixed network by increasing Internet usage by 50 gigabits and 1000 minutes for the month of July.”

“The campaign is not for political goals only, it goes beyond this matter to call for dialogue between people, brothers, relatives and friends, and hence we launch the “Let’s Communicate” campaign,” The Minister added.

Qorm also pointed out, “This campaign is supported by the private sector,” thanking the Ministry of Information, in the person of Minister Ziad Makary, and all written and audio-visual media outlets and electronic websites for supporting the campaign, as well as thanking Ogero and Alfa and Touch telecom companies.

Minister Qorm also thanked the TBWA raad company, which carried out the campaign, and the two companies, Pikasso and Promo Media, for publishing billboards on the roads, and everyone who contributed to the success of this campaign.

For his part, Caretaker Minister Makary underlined, “All our crises can only be resolved through dialogue, even our constitutional entitlements,” stressing that “dialogue is the main and first motive for the launch of political and administrative life in the country, and it is not only linked to the election of the President of the Republic, knowing that we stress the necessity of electing the president because this would help in regularizing institutions’ work.”

Minister Makary added: “The political deadlock in the country is not healthy, as we are on the onset of a summer season, and tourism is flourishing with the presence of expatriates and Arab and foreign tourists…”

He continued, “If our institutions were regularly operating, with the presence of a president, a new government, and an effective parliament, nothing would have been disrupted in the country. The least we can call for is dialogue and communication, even within the same house… As Minister Qorm stated, dialogue resolves differences.”

Makary stressed that “the refusal of dialogue by some political forces is unhealthy, and these forces know that the deadlock can only be resolved through dialogue.”

Minister Makary concluded, “This campaign is an awareness campaign and a reminder to all political forces that we are able to come together for the salvation of this country.”
