Lebanese Ministry of Information
Caretaker Minister of Information, Dr. Manal Abdel Samad Najd, along with a delegation from the Ministry including the Director General, Dr. Hassan Falha and Director of Lebanese Studies and Publications, Khodor Majed, on Monday visited the advanced emergency chamber tasked with following up on the humanitarian and social conditions in the inflicted area of Beirut as a result of the massive port explosion.
Minister Abdel Samad and her accompanying delegation were welcomed by the Chamber President, Brigadier Sami Howayek, who briefed them on the progress of the field work, including relief efforts, surveying damages, and the coordination of tasks .
Speaking to the press, Abdel Samad expressed condolences to the families of the victims and consolation to all those were harmed by the tragic explosion, hailing the tremendous efforts exerted by the advanced emergency room, including surveying damages and gathering information on the damaged sites and the aid provided to Beirut, as well as the needs of the affected people.
“It is necessary to highlight all these works in the media, for more transparency and in accordance with the right to access information, especially after the decree issued by the government in this regard” the Minister maintained.
She thanked the international community and all the internal and external supportive sides that showed great affinity and devotion towards Lebanon, saying: “We value all these efforts, and as such we must have a permanent chamber to deal with disasters and emergency events in order to be able to swiftly respond to crises. We join hands with the Brigadier General Sami Howayek to devise a complete and integrated media plan in order to convey our voice to everyone and to reflect transparency and objectivity to restore confidence to our country,” Minister said.
In response to a question, Abdel Samad disclosed that an electronic website is being prepared to include all matters and information related to the Port disaster.
