Abdel Samad Welcomes Representatives Of Digital Media Portals In Bekaa: We Should Not Burden Our Country Beyond Its Capacity

Minister of Information, Dr. Manal Abdel Samad Najd, on Wednesday welcomed representatives of digital media portals in West Bekaa, Zahle, and Baalbek-Hermel regions.

During the meeting, Minister Abdel Samad confirmed that she echoed the voice of the media in the government, stressing that she prefers “to work in silence.”

She also confirmed that the Ministry of Information endeavored, on a daily basis, to protect media professionals, photographers, and other workers in the field and relentlessly follows up on their issues with relevant ministries.

“We must not burden our country beyond its capacity; our enemies are many, so we should not be our own enemy as well,” she added.

In response to a question, the Minister highlighted the paramount importance of capitalizing on tourist, health, environmental, and agricultural media.

“On the first of July, activity will resume at Rafic Hariri International Airport. Lebanon will start receiving tourists, so the media should shed light on the all of the positive things that serve our country’s best interest.”

As for the protection of media professionals, especially those working for digital portals, Abdel Samad said, “When these sites are regulated under the Media Law, then violations will be referred to their own competent courts instead of being referred to information crime courts.”
