Abdel Samad: To Steer Clear From Infringement Of Freedoms, Facilitate Journalists’ Mission During Lockdown

Caretaker Information Minister, Manal Abdel Samad Najd, on Tuesday held a meeting attended by Press Order Head, Aouni Kaaki, Press Editors’ Head, Joseph Kosseifi, and Head of the Audio-Visual Media Council, Abdel Hadi Mahfouz.

The meeting discussed the exception given to journalists during the lockdown, allowing them to move about the country freely to get their job done properly.

In this vein, Abdel Samad confirmed her support to journalists and her attachment to the media sector, stressing the substantial role of the two Orders reaching a unanimous decision to protect this sector whilst prohibiting contraventions.

Furthermore, Abdel Samad said she would communicate with Interior Minister, Mohammad Fahmi, regarding the journalist exemption during the lockdown period, noting that this will take place as needed and to be determined by media institutions.

“We must develop a general framework to facilitate the work of journalists without restrictions,” the Minister stressed, refusing any infringement of freedoms and insisting on the role of media awareness in the face of the perils of the rampant pandemic.

Abdel Samad did not fail to highlight the paramount importance of taking all the necessary preventive measures against the Coronavirus.
