The Government is Going to Evacuate the Lebanese Stranded Abroad

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nassif Hitti, promised to bring Lebanese people back to their country. As reported by The Daily Star, Hitti will also ensure that students abroad receive money transfers.

As a result of the precautionary measures taken to wane the spread of the coronavirus, many Lebanese people are stuck outside the country, including a woman and her two children who had to sleep on the streets on the borders of Turkey and Syria, as reported by MTV News.

In addition, the foreign minister announced that the government will financially support students whose families cannot send money to, due to the economic situation in Lebanon. Some students are living on as low as $6 a week in Italy, and those stuck in Ukraine are begging for the government’s help.

Hitti stated that a flight is being prepared for the people’s safe return to Lebanon. All will be tested for the coronavirus, and no one will return unless tested negative, he stressed.

Prime Minister Hassan Diab later announced that the airport will remain closed until April 12th with some exceptions, due to the danger of the coronavirus. It is understood that these exceptions include the evacuation of the Lebanese nationals stranded abroad.
