Pope prays for Lebanon’s stability

BEIRUT: Pope Francis prayed for the stability of Lebanon during a mass held at the Vatican Sunday, the state-run National News Agency reported.

As many as 6,000 people attended the mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican, during which Francis renewed his “appeal from the heart to the international officials to exert effort for peace to prevail, especially in the Middle East.”

Francis made specific reference to Lebanon, saying: “In particular, my thoughts go to the dear Lebanese people, and I pray for the security of this country so it can continue its message.”

He added that he wished the country would remain “a message of respect and coexistence for all countries of the region and the world.”

Amongst those attending were refugees and migrants from across the Middle East. The first reading was done by Tony Baddah, a refugee from Syria.

Francis also denounced “indifference” as a great sin.
